Intern – Optimization of drill bits for percussive hammer drilling systems
What's the role?
Investigate performance and wear behavior of drill bit prototypes under application specific mechanical and thermal loads as a basis for developing new drill bits with superior performance and robustness.
Start date is flexible to the student's availability (Jan/Feb/Mar 2021), duration for 3-6 months

What does the role involve?
As an intern in our department you’ll be part of a project team.
You’ll work closely with our experts to develop an optimized percussive hammer drilling system.
Your key responsibilities will be the analysis of drill bit prototypes with respect to performance and lifetime. You will plan and perform experiments to investigate drilling-, fracture- and wear-behaviour of new materials in drill bits and analyse material behaviour metallographically. Your activities will support the project team in developing new technical solutions.

What you need is:
- Bachelor or master student in material science, physics or mechanical engineering
- Experience in material analysis
- Methodical and independent work ethic
- Passion for innovation and product development
- Strong communication skills, with excellent English and interpersonal skills
