Research Engineer in Design at Corporate Research and Technology (m/f/x)
What's the role?
As a Research Engineer in Design, you are responsible for designing, calculating and manufacturing (mechanical setups) of prototypes and functional demonstrator models for the Hilti’s Corporate Research and Technology. This can include strength calculation and conducting of FEM (Finite Element Modelling) analysis. The candidate is responsible for driving the research design competence build up by acting as a sparring partner to project leaders and research engineers.

What does the role involve?
You will work closely with our project managers, technical experts and lab engineers and you will support them with your expertise. A creative, innovation driven mindset, operational diligence and analytical skills are key strengths that make you successful. You will, on one hand, do the design of the prototypes and on the other hand manage and organise the internal and external manufacturing suppliers. Through your active teamwork, you support research and development projects and ensure an efficient process.
Effective technical communication as well as a broad internal and external network is a key factor in your job. We are looking for a self-responsible person who can manage external design partners as well and be responsible for an apprentice in design. You know the state-of-the-art manufacturing methods and how to use them accordingly.

What you need is:
- You hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related fields
- Relevant professional experience in manufacturing technology, construction and strength analysis
- Very good knowledge of CAD, preferably Siemens NX and manufacturing methods
- Broad network of design providers and mechanical manufacturing suppliers (incl. 3D printing)
- Strong Technical understanding with excellent networking skills
- Strong communication skills in spoken and written English and German with an ease to initiate new connections with various partners inside and outside the organization
